
Khadat Trail Race 50k
Overview
Khadat 50k is one of Mongolia’s leading mountain trail running races and an official ITRA point-certified event. Held near Ulaanbaatar at the foothills of Khadat Mountain, it offers runners the chance to compete in Mongolia’s vast and untamed landscapes. The journey begins with a guided city tour of Ulaanbaatar and a light shake-out run to help runners recover from travel and adjust to the altitude. After the race, participants continue the adventure with recovery runs in Terelj National Park and unique cultural experiences including horse and camel riding, desert running in the Mini Gobi, and visits to historic sites like Erdene Zuu Monastery. This trip blends trail running, nature, and Mongolia’s rich nomadic culture into a memorable and refreshing experience.

Itinerary
Day 1. Ulaanbaatar City
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, city sightseeing, and a light shake-out run to loosen up from travel.
- 12:00 – Arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (guide meeting, CU store, exchange money)
- 13:00 – Lunch in Ulaanbaatar
- 14:00 – Hostel check-in
- 16:00 – City tour (State Department Store, Sukhbaatar Square, cashmere shopping)
- 17:00 – Shake-out city run 5 km
- 18:00 – Dinner at The Bull hotpot restaurant, free time
- Total driving time: approx. 2 hours
Day 2. Race Day – Khadat 50k
Race day at Khadat Trail with multiple distance options, followed by transfer to Terelj National Park.
- 04:00 – Breakfast and hostel check-out
- 06:00 – Khadat Trail 50k Opening Ceremony (start times: 8:00 – 10k, 7:00 – 25k, 6:00 – 50k)
- 14:00 – Lunch after the race
- 16:00 – Ger camp check-in at Terelj National Park
- 19:00 – Dinner and free time in Terelj
- Total driving time: approx. 3 hours
Day 3. Terelj National Park & Mini Gobi
Recovery run at Turtle Rock, visit to the Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, and transfer to Mini Gobi.
- 07:00 – Breakfast and morning recovery run 7 km @Turtle Rock
- 09:00 – Check-out from Terelj ger camp, depart toward Mini Gobi
- 10:00 – Visit Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex and take photos with eagles
- 13:00 – Lunch on the way
- 16:00 – Ger camp check-in at Mini Gobi
- 19:00 – Dinner and free time
- Total driving time: approx. 6 hours
Day 4. Mini Gobi & Orkhon Valley
Morning desert run and camel riding in Mini Gobi, then transfer to Orkhon Valley and visit Erdene Zuu Monastery.
- 07:00 – Breakfast and morning desert run 5 km @Mini Gobi
- 10:00 – Camel riding in the desert
- 12:00 – Ger camp check-in at Orkhon Valley
- 13:00 – Lunch
- 15:00 – Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery
- 17:00 – Evening 5 km run @Orkhon Valley
- 19:00 – Dinner and free time
- Total driving time: approx. 2 hours
Day 5. Departure Day
Return to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to the airport for departure.
